Reinier de la Haye, Portrait of a Boy with a Meerschaum Pipe

Reinier de la Haye (* around 1640 perhaps in The Hague ; † around 1695 or shortly afterwards probably in Antwerp ) was a Dutch painter.

Nothing is known about the origin of Reinier de la Haye. It is believed that he was born in The Hague, where he is documented as a pupil of Adriaen Hanneman in 1660 . In 1662 he married. In 1663 he became a member of the Hager Lukasgilde , where he was listed as gezelschapschilder . A few years later he moved to Utrecht , where he became a member of the local Guild of St. Luke in 1669 . In 1672 he moved to Antwerp, where his wife died a year later. His last known picture dates from 1695, so it can be assumed that he died in the same year or shortly afterwards.

Reinier de la Haye mainly painted genre pictures and portraits. The latter are very close to his contemporary Caspar Netscher , from whom he was probably influenced. In addition, a small number of still lifes has survived that identify him as an excellent colorist . Several versions exist of some of his motifs.
