Reject the Sickness is a Belgian melodic death metal and metalcore band from Flanders that was founded in 2007.

history

The group was in the development phase from 2007 to 2010 before a name for the project was found in 2010 with Reject the Sickness. In the same year the demo Slack Muscles Heal was released . After that, the band played various concerts and was seen at the Brugghe Daevert Festival in 2012 . In 2013 she signed a recording deal with Deathwake Records . In the same year the EP Bloodstained Eyes was released . In 2014 the group played at the Antwerp Metal Fest and took part in the final of the Wacken Metal Battle. In the following year a contract was signed with Mighty Music , about which the debut album Chains of Solitude was released in the same year . The following year they went on a tour of Great Britain and the band could be seen at festivals like the Graspop Metal Meeting or the Evil or Die Festival . In 2018 she played on the Metaldays and the second album The Weight of Silence was released. Guitarist Zoran Van Bellegem and bassist Jonas Messiaen have been new members of the line-up since the end of 2018. The EP The New Chapter followed in 2019 .

style

Ronny Bittner from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Chains of Solitude that this was melodic death metal in the style of The Black Dahlia Murder , which was enriched by progressive elements. However, the band usually does not come close to the class of progressive death metal bands such as Death , Pestilence or Cynic . The group sees good refrains in the songs "more as a necessary evil than as a top priority" and the tempo and melody design also lack variability. In a later edition, Sebastian Schilling reviewed the album The Weight of Silence and described it as a modern mixture of Death and Thrash Metal , which can be classified between Dark Tranquility , new At the Gates and American bands like All Shall Perish . The “strong refrains”, which are not sung clearly, “but are skillfully made wider with several voices” are striking. Occasionally, guitar effects and the nature of the rhythms would be reminiscent of Gojira . Andreas Schiffmann also commented on the album and was not very enthusiastic about the refrains. Rather, the songs lack sophisticated song structures, instead you do “paint-by-number tappings ” and you can hear “cross-good single-note doodling”, “which meanwhile even those Scandinavians are too good for who accidentally do the evoked evil melodic death trend spirits ”. The rhythms are intentionally bulky, but could neither achieve the force nor the groove of Gojira. The group tries to be progressive, but the result is only "semi-technical everyday metal with expressionless roar". One issue later, Schiffmann described the album's music as semi-technical death metal. In an interview with him, Guy Vercruysse, who wrote the lyrics for the songs, stated that all the songs on the album were about his work in adolescent psychiatry. Anthalerero from stormbringer.at assigned The New Chapter to Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore. The group is quite modern and uses flat riffs , but they don't manage to be memorable because the songs are too interchangeable.
