Rembold (Provost)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rembold was provost of the cathedral chapter of Münster from 1206 to 1238 .

Life

He may have come from the Grafschaft noble family . Between 1203 and 1204 he can be verified as cathedral choirmaster. Since 1206 he appears in the documents as provost of the cathedral. At the same time he was pastor of Billerbeck . He often appears as a witness in documents from Bishop Otto I. von Oldenburg .

Pope Honorius III. commissioned him in 1218 to solve problems in the diocese of Utrecht together with two other clergy from Münster . A short time later, they were once again given a mission by the Pope. This time it was about a dispute between the cathedral dean of the diocese of Hildesheim and the bishop of Paderborn over possession of the Nienkerken priory near Corvey .

It then appears in numerous other documents. In 1226 he arbitrated a dispute between a knight and the Clarholz monastery over a mill near Gimbte . Together with the bishop and cathedral chapter , he confirmed the possession of the parish church in Harsewinkel to the Marienfeld monastery in 1232 . He was a witness at the foundation of a family memory by Bishop Ludolf von Holte and his brothers in the Bersenbrück monastery .

In 1237 he and another clergyman were commissioned by Bishop Ludolf to confirm and monitor compliance with a contract between the city of Bremen on the one hand and Bishop Gerhard II zur Lippe and the Bremen Cathedral Chapter on the other.

He tried to keep several obediences to himself and to transfer others to a nephew. The provost finally had to admit the illegality, but was allowed to keep three of the aforementioned special assets for life. At that time, the cathedral chapter began to change from the natural to the money economy .

Rembold had apparently resigned from his position before his death. The year of death 1242 and 1246 are possible.
