René Coste
René Jean Henri Coste (born September 29, 1922 in Saint-Genest-Lerpt , Loire ; † April 18, 2018 in Paris ) was a French theologian , Roman Catholic priest and author and professor at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse .
Life
René Coste was born in Saint-Genest-Lerpt in 1922. At the Institut catholique de Paris he obtained a license in theology in 1948 and a doctorate in civil law and canon law in 1961, and in 1969 a doctorate in theology at the Institut Catholique de Toulouse . From 1947 he was a priest at the St-Sulpice seminary in Paris and in 1948 became director of the Séminaire de la Mission de France in Lisieux . In 1969 he became a professor of social theology and held this position until his retirement in 1992.
René Coste was a specialist in social ethics and social policy, as well as in Catholic social teaching. He was a visiting professor at the Université catholique de Louvain , the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières , the Université de Montréal , the University of Barcelona (theological faculty of Saint-Pacien), the theological faculty in Lyon (chair of ecumenism) and the Academy for Catholic theology in Warsaw. He was President of Pax Christi in France.
