René Dumesnil 1936

René Dumesnil (born June 19, 1879 in Rouen , † December 24, 1967 in Paris ) was a French doctor, literary critic and musicologist .

life and work

Dumesnil studied literature at the Sorbonne . At this time he made contact with the musical avant-garde in Paris. This examination of contemporary French music is reflected in his music reviews and in his musically oriented books.

For Henry Tomasi , he designed the ballet 1938 Les Sautous for Jeanne Leleu ballet Nautéos and Claude Delvincourt he wrote in 1948, the mystery play Lucifer .

Dumesnil received the Prix ​​National de Literature for his source-critical new edition of the works of Gustave Flaubert . In 1965 Dumesnil was accepted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts .
