René Müller (born May 19, 1974 in Minden ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Career as a player
In his youth, Müller played for FC Bad Oeynhausen and Arminia Bielefeld . Until 1999 he played at Preußen Münster . In the 1999/2000 season, Müller came to VfL Bochum , where he played a Bundesliga game. Only a year later he moved to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on a free transfer . For the 2002/03 season he came to FC Augsburg , where he also stayed for only one year.
In the following season he moved to Rot-Weiß Erfurt , where he made a significant contribution to the Thuringians' promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with 17 goals . During the winter break of the season, when the promotion was not yet in sight, René Müller signed a contract with SC Paderborn 07 (SCP). Since the Paderborn insisted on the fulfillment of the contract, Müller moved to the Regionalliga Nord for the 2004/05 season , instead of playing higher class with Erfurt. With the Paderborn, however, he was promoted a year later.
After the SCP was relegated to the second division in May 2008, Müller moved to Kickers Offenbach in the third division . Shortly afterwards he asked for his contract to be terminated for personal reasons, but the club's management refused. After he was initially on sick leave, he was absent without excuse. On July 28, 2008, his contract was canceled.
On the same day he signed a one-year contract with Rot Weiss Ahlen ; after its expiry, Müller ended his career as a player in 2009.
Career as a trainer
For the 2011/12 season René Müller was coach of the East Westphalian state division TuS Tengern.
For the 2012/13 season, his old club SC Paderborn 07 signed him as head of the junior performance center and coach of the U-23 team. On May 5, 2013, Müller took over the professional team of SC Paderborn as interim coach after Stephan Schmidt was dismissed . For the new season he was then replaced by André Breitenreiter .
In March 2016, Müller took over the Paderborn team as the new head coach after the dismissal of Stefan Effenberg . Müller could not prevent relegation to the 3rd division . In November 2016 he was released from work; At that time Paderborn was on 17th place in the table.
In January 2017 it was announced that he will take over Arminia Bielefeld's U23 team as head coach in the summer of 2017 . Due to health problems, he had to resign in February 2018. Since July 2018, Müller has been working as a sports director in the U16 to U19 performance area and as a junior head coach at Arminia.
