René Zazzo

René Zazzo (born October 27, 1910 in Paris , † September 20, 1995 in Perros-Guirec , Département Côtes-d'Armor ) was a French psychologist.

Live and act

Zazzo came from a modest background and completed his school days in Paris. Subsequently, he began studying at the Sorbonne , which he had to earn through a variety of jobs.

In 1933, Zazzo received his doctorate and, with the support of his teachers Émile Meyerson and Henri Wallon, came to Arnold Gesell on a scholarship at Yale University , who was there for child psychology . In Paris, Zazzo married Bianka Goldminc (1915–2007), the daughter of Polish exiles.

After his return to France, Zazzo got a job at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and, at the same time, a teaching position at the École pratique des hautes études . During the German occupation , Zazzo worked at the Hôpital Henri Rousselle . Zazzo supported the Resistance and at the request of the doctor Jacques Solomon (1908-1942) he also joined the Université Libre .

After the end of the war, Zazzo worked with Henri Wallon on a school psychology program based on the work of Alfred Binet .

In 1955 Zazzo was elected president of the Société française de psychologie and again in 1977. Politically interested, Zazzo spoke out against the Algerian war and in September 1960 was one of the first to sign the 121st manifesto .

In 1960 Zazzo was appointed President of the Groupement français d'études de neuro-psychopathologie infantile .

René Zazzo died on September 20, 1995 in Perros-Guirec and found his final resting place there.
