René du Mesnil de Rochemont (born May 24, 1901 in Altona , † April 15, 1984 in Marburg ) was a German radiologist and radiation researcher.

Life

Du Mesnil was born in Altona (today Hamburg ). He studied several semesters Theology and later switched to medicine. After graduating, he went to the Physiological Institute of the University of Würzburg and then to the medical outpatient clinic there. His interest in physics then led him to the clinic of the radiation researcher Hans Meyer in Bremen . In 1931 du Mesnil took over the management of the X-ray department of the medical university clinic in Giessen and completed his habilitation there at the medical faculty a year later. In 1938 he became an adjunct professor and in the same year accepted a call to the medical faculty of the University of Marburg with the task of setting up a radiation clinic there. On September 24, 1945, he was dismissed by the US military authorities and rated as a Nazi fellow traveler in the 1946 Arbitration Chamber proceedings. A revision in 1949 classified it as unencumbered. So he returned to the university in 1950 and headed the radiation clinic there until 1969. After retiring, du Mesnil continued to live in Marburg. Du Mesnil belonged to the third generation of radiologists in Germany.

He was married and had 6 children.
