The Renaissance class , which was built for the shipping company Renaissance Cruises , consists of eight smaller cruise ships .

history

The eight-unit series was commissioned in the mid-1980s for the US sea travel company Renaissance Cruises. Four units were built at the Cantieri Navali Ferrari-Signani shipyard in La Spezia , the other four units at the Nuovi Cantieri Apuania shipyard in Carrara . The ships came into service with consecutive end numbers as Renaissance One to Renaissance Eight . After the collapse of Renaissance Cruises as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , various other cruise lines acquired the ships and used them under different names.

description

With a crew of around 70, the ships have a passenger capacity of 111 guests in the first four units and 114 guests in the slightly larger subsequent four units. The guests are accommodated exclusively in luxurious suites. The ship has five passenger decks. The measurements of the ships, which are around 90 meters long and 15 meters wide, are slightly over 4000 GT. They have a top speed of 15  knots . The first four units were each powered by two MAN B&W alpha twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines of the type 12V28 / 32, the following four ships each received two eight-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines of the type MAN 8L28 / 32.
