Renzo Canestrari
Renzo Canestrari (born August 19, 1924 in Piagge ; † January 28, 2017 in Bologna ) was an Italian doctor and psychologist .
Life
After completing his medical studies in 1951, Canestrari took part in Rome at the first Italian congress of psychologists after the Second World War and in 1953 at the first Italian congress for clinical psychology . He also got to know the Italian Gestalt psychologists Cesare Musatti , Fabio Metelli and Gaetano Kanizsa , who were to determine his psychological orientation significantly. After working with Musatti and Kanizsa in some perceptual psychological research, Canestrari received his university teaching license in 1957 and then taught for three years at the University of Salerno . In 1960 he was appointed to the first chair in clinical psychology at the University of Bologna . The focus of his teaching activities and the research work he directed was experimental psychology based on gestalt theory. There was also a regular collaboration with the German gestalt psychologist Wolfgang Metzger . Canestrari's students - one speaks of the gestaltpsychological “School of Bologna” - include Anna Arfelli Galli , Giuseppe Galli , Mario Fame, Paolo Bonaiuto, Alberto Ranzi, Pietro Tampieri, Giuliana Giovanelli, Giancarlo Trombini , Vincenzo Faenza, Augusto Palmonari and Gabriella Bartoli. Renzo Canestrari has been a member of the Advisory Board of the international multidisciplinary journal Gestalt Theory since 1979 . In 1991 he founded the Dipartimento della Formazione (the Faculty of Education) of the Università degli Studi della Repubblica di San Marino . Since 1989 he was a member of the Academia Europaea .
