Style and content
Replay is a groove-oriented mid-tempo pop song with influences of Contemporary R & B , Dance , Reggae and electronic music, particularly in the synth - strings areas shows. Individual samples with chant elements were used. In the song, Iyaz sings about his girl ("Shawtay", a slang expression for "beloved"). She is like a melody in his head that would be repeated like an iPod set to repeat ( replay ) .
Music video
The accompanying music video is set on a beach where the performer listens to music, dances and sings. A flag of the American Virgin Islands can be seen, from which Iyaz comes. Rock Jacobs directed it.
Commercial win
Replay was born on 7 July 2009 as the first single from the album of the same name album Replay released and reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 . It was Iyaz's first commercially successful title.
In Great Britain , Replay made it straight to number 1 on the charts there, with over 100,000 units sold in the first week . Replay was awarded gold for over 400,000 units sold.
In Switzerland and Australia was Replay also a number-one hit. The single reached the single top ten in other countries, including 3rd place in Austria and 7th place in Germany .
