Reza Alipourshenazandifar (رضا علیپور شنازندی فرد, born April 29, 1994 in Tehran , Iran ) is an Iranian sport climber who specializes in speed climbing . He currently holds the world record in the Olympic 15 meters, which is why he is considered the fastest person in the world vertically . He is also nicknamed Persian Chetah (Persian Cheetah).

Career

Reza began to take part in international speed climbing competitions in 2011, and in the following year he took second place in the Asian Youth Championship. In 2013 he managed to become vice Asian champion, and he also took first place in his second World Cup participation . In 2017 he was able to achieve many significant victories and gained international fame. In addition to winning the overall World Cup, he set a new world record of 5.48 seconds in the 15-meter distance at the World Cup in Nanjing on April 29, breaking his own record. In July of the same year he won gold in speed climbing at the World Games 2017 in Wroclaw and was elected Athlete of the Year, winning just under 90,790 to 90,036 votes against the Ukrainian powerlifting fighter Larysa Soloviova . He was also the first Iranian athlete to ever win a gold medal at the World Games. In 2018 he took first place at the World Cup .
