Rhenish-Westphalian
Rhenish-Westphalian is a term used to designate the origin, a location or a - mostly business - catchment area or area of interest in the "western provinces" of Prussia , the Rhine province and the province of Westphalia . In particular through industrialization and the emergence of the Ruhr area in the 19th and 20th centuries, a large number of interdependencies arose in the area of these provinces. Since the dissolution of these provinces in 1946, the term does not always refer to their historical area, but - as a synonym for the term North Rhine-Westphalian - to the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia .
