The Rhino Rock is a striking, black and 700 m high ledge in the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . With its steep flanks it rises 8 km southwest of Cape Rymill on the Wilkins coast .
Scientists on the East Base during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) descriptively named it as Rhino Horn Rock (English for rhinoceros rock ). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names shortened this name in 1953 to its current form.
