The German Ice Hockey Cup was played for the third time by the German Ice Hockey Federation in the 1987/88 season , this time under the name Ice Hockey Bundesliga Cup . With this cup competition one tried again to bridge the break during the Olympic Winter Games. Little interest from the audience and difficulties in getting a team together without the seconded national players were reasons that no further cup competitions were held in the years after that until 1996/97 .
