The German Ice Hockey Cup was played for the fourth time by the German Ice Hockey Federation in the 1996/97 season , this time under the name DEB League Cup . Little interest from the audience and the tight schedule of the professional clubs were the reasons why no further cup competitions were held in the years that followed until 2002/03 .

The participants were the teams of the 1st ice hockey league organized by the DEB in 1996/97 . DEL teams did not take part in this cup competition.
