Winner: EHC Freiburg

The German Ice Hockey Cup was played for the second time by the German Ice Hockey Federation in the 1983/84 season. With this cup competition one tried to bridge the break during the Olympic Winter Games. Little interest from the spectators and difficulties in getting a team together without the seconded national players were reasons that no further cup competitions were held in the years after that until 1987/88 .

Participants were the 10 teams of the ice hockey Bundesliga. The competition was played out in 3 groups of 3 or 4 teams each. The best group winner, in this case the SB-Rosenhein in group 3, qualified for the final. The two group winners from groups 1 and 2, ECD Iserlohn and ERC Freiburg, had to play off the finalists in two play-offs.
