The DEB Cup for the 2009/10 season was redesigned in cooperation between the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) and the Ice Hockey Game Operating Company (ESBG). After the clubs of the German Ice Hockey League and the 2nd Bundesliga as well as some clubs in the upper leagues had participated since the Cup was founded in 2001 , the DEL teams decided not to participate this season. Reasons were the tight schedule due to the fact planned Champions Hockey League - season , the Olympic hockey tournament , the national team games in preparation for the World Cup in their own country as well as the low level of acceptance among the spectators, of which only a few hundred saw some of the games, which mostly took place on weekdays.

mode

The German cup winner was played by the participating teams in the knockout system . Two clubs from cities that were geographically as close as possible to each other played against each other. Home rights were drawn, only the qualified Oberliga representative EC Peiting always had home rights and the U20 national team always played away.

The possible games of the further rounds were already determined by the betting system. The competition began on October 13, 2009, and the final took place on December 1, 2009.

Attendees

In addition to the 14 participants in the Bundesliga season, the field of 16 teams only included the finalists of the 2008/09 Oberliga season - winners of the Oberliga Süd - and the German U20 team . One of the aims of this competition was therefore targeted athletic support the U20 national team on the way to U-20 World Youth Championship 2010 Division I . You should gain additional gaming experience under competitive conditions.

The EHC Munich won the DEB Cup for the first time in the history of the club, won the championship of the 2nd ice hockey league in the same season and, after meeting the economic requirements, rose to the German ice hockey league .
