Lepismium houlletianum is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Lepismium houlletianum grows epiphytically and shrubby with drooping shoots that are richly branched and up to 2 meters or more long. The round, bright green shoot segments at their base are flattened like leaves. They are 10 to 50 inches long and 1 to 5 inches wide. The deep, sawtooth-like notched edges are sometimes reddish. The areoles are bare.

The funnel-shaped to almost bell-shaped, hanging, creamy white flowers appear in groups and do not open wide. They are up to 2 inches long. The spherical, red to black fruits have a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lepismium houlletianum is widespread in the south and east of Brazil , in southwest Brazil Mato Grosso do Sul in northeast Argentina and probably in Bolivia . It was first described as Rhipsalis houlletiana in 1858 by Charles Lemaire . Wilhelm Barthlott placed them in the genus Lepismium in 1987 .

There are two forms

Lepismium houlletianum f. houlletianum
Lepismium houlletianum f. regnellii

which differ in the color of the base of the stamens .

Lepismium houlletianum is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
