The rhododendron routes are two circular cycle routes - the western route with 45 km and the eastern route with 35 kilometers - which lead you to one of the special sights of the Ammerland, namely the extensive gardens with rhododendrons . When this hedge-forming plant is in bloom, in May and June, the blaze of color of the lush flowers offers a unique experience. Sometimes it is possible to visit individual horticultural businesses along the routes described.

Both routes are signposted in both directions along well-developed, but low-traffic or completely car-free paths. In keeping with the predominantly flat landscape, they do not make any special demands on the physical performance of cyclists.

The western route connects the large show gardens in Linswege , Gristede and Rostrup . She touches the "Rhododendron" landscape window in Westerstede -Gießelhorst.

The eastern route leads past many tree nurseries with rhododendrons and also past the Gristede Rhododendron Park. The route to the castle in Rastede is particularly attractive . Here the garden architect Carl Ferdinand Bosse laid the foundation stone for the cultivation of the rhododendron in the Ammerland in the 18th century. This route touches the landscape window " Wallhecken " in Wemkendorf (municipality of Wiefelstede ).
