In the Lower Saxony district of Ammerland , the so-called landscape windows are actually five smaller observation towers, from which the visitor can enjoy a view of typical regional landscape features. He should look at and experience the northern German landscape as if through a window.

These lookout towers were built as part of the Lower Saxony State Garden Show in 2002 and were intended to provide a conscious counterpoint to the colorful flowers of the show by showing the visitor the austere beauty of the North German natural and cultural landscape. They are architecturally very varied. Each of the five towers is assigned a certain characteristic of the Ammerland as well as medium-length cycle paths, on which the visitor can experience the respective thematic focus of the landscape window in a different way.

Rietberg Garden Show Park

Landscape windows were created on the site of the former North Rhine-Westphalia State Horticultural Show (2008) in Rietberg ( Gütersloh district ), the Rietberg Garden Show Park. The surrounding wooded border frames the park, creating an inside and outside. Through targeted openings, the landscape windows, the surrounding landscape corresponds with the interior of the park.

Bodensee-Linzgau region

A landscape park has been created in the Bodensee - Linzgau region , which is maintained by eleven municipalities. In this landscape park, six landscape windows can be viewed, namely

Rems-Murr district

In the Rems-Murr district , a total of 22 “ tuning forks ” will be set up in a regional landscape park called “Limes Park” . The tuning forks are approx. 3 m high, made of wood (planed oak) and mounted on a concrete base. With the so-called “tuning fork”, an artistic medium is chosen that is intended to be a landmark for the region. It should be a marker, information board, vantage point and eye-catcher at the same time. 16 tuning forks are placed west of the Limes , 3 east of it and 3 directly on the Limes. The implementation should take place in the first half of 2009.

Ruhr area

On the border between Gelsenkirchen and Essen , an open space corridor is called a "landscape window" by city planners.

Austria

In Austria, different landscapes are scientifically observed from certain points called landscape windows at regular intervals .

Pöllau Valley

In the Pöllauer Tal , biodiversity research is carried out with the help of landscape windows. The central theme is the representation of the changes in the landscape from 1822 to the present (2000–2002) and into the future (2022). Professional "landscape observation" should record the historical condition of the landscape, but also contribute to a forecast of the future development of the landscape in the Pöllauer Tal.

Mölltal

The Reisseck landscape window in Mölltal is an analysis method with which the relationships between landscape and regional development are to be examined by creating scenarios. In the municipality of Reißeck, this method was intended to analyze the direction of future landscape development. By comparing the landscape of yesterday (1830), today (2006) and tomorrow (scenario 2036), problems and opportunities were identified and discussed together with the community residents and ideas for promoting sustainable development at community level were collected.

Switzerland

Landscape windows form stations on a path around Lake Biel .
