The Ribaut-Winkerzikade ( Acericerus ribauti ) is a leafhopper from the subfamily of the Winker cicadas (Idiocerinae). The cicada species was named after the French entomologist Henri Ribaut .

features

The brown-white patterned cicadas are 5.4–5.9 mm long. The wing veins have a white color pattern. A dark band runs across the forewings. The compound eyes are shimmering green. The male cicadas have a short dark longitudinal stripe on the field of vision, which ends below the ocelli and has a pale central line. They also have short antennae flagella that are only one tenth of the total antenna length. The female cicadas are very similar to those of the related species Acericerus vittifrons .

Similar species

  • Stripe winker cicada ( Acericerus vittifrons ) - the males have a distinct black stripe in the field of vision that extends to above the ocelli; the antennae whip takes about a third of the antennae length

Occurrence

Acericerus ribauti is common in Central Europe. There the species occurs in Germany, Poland, Belgium, France, Italy and Slovenia. The species was first detected in England in 2007.

Way of life

Acericerus ribauti can be found on various types of maple , especially field maple ( Acer campestre ). But there are also finds of plane trees . The cicadas suckle on the leaves and stems of these trees. The adults of a generation usually fly from early August to December and overwinter. In the following year they can be observed until May.
