Pierre Ricaud de Tirregaille (* around 1725; † after 1772) was a French architect and engineer who worked mainly in Poland . In addition to his architectural work, he is particularly known for making maps and building drawings.

life and work

Tirregaille came to Poland in 1752. Here he worked as a civil architect and surveyor as well as an army engineer and captain of an infantry regiment, from 1762 in the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Polish armed forces. He stayed in Poland until 1772.

His architectural style was based on French classicism , which he enriched with elements of the Rococo . From 1757 to 1760 he built a residence for the Potocki family in Krystynopol (today Tscherwonohrad ). In 1762 he was responsible for the reconstruction of the Mniszech Palace in Warsaw . In addition to many other architects such as Jan Zygmunt Deybel and Giacomo Fontana , he was also involved in the construction of the palace and park of the Branicki family in Białystok .

In the years 1758 and 1759 Tirregaille worked on behalf of King Augustus III founded paving Commission . The chairman of this commission, Crown Marshal Franciszek Bieliński , commissioned Tirregaille in 1762 to draw up a detailed plan of the city of Warsaw. In the same year, the engineer presented the first city map of Warsaw, which was based on a survey. The plan consisted of 18 parts on a scale of 1: 1000. The border of this city map, which was often copied later, was adorned with drawings of numerous palaces in the city, such as the Primate Palace , the Symonowicz Palace , the Palace of the Bishops of Krakow and the Radziwiłł Palace . The contemporary building representations were a valuable source for the reconstruction of the palaces after the Second World War .

But Tirregailles detailed drawings of other objects were also helpful later. The reconstruction of a griffin on the entrance gate to the palace park in Białystok was only possible after his drawings were found in Paris in 1994.
