Ernst Richard Immanuel Buchmayer (born April 20, 1856 in Zittau , † May 24, 1934 in Tamsweg ) was a German pianist and music historian .

Buchmayer began studying at the Dresden Conservatory in 1875 . After graduation he taught piano at the music school in Riga from 1879 , from 1883 at the Dresden Conservatory and from 1892 at the music school in Dresden . Buchmayer, who had held a professorship for music history since 1906, also worked as a concert pianist. In 1907 he stopped teaching the piano at music schools in order to be able to devote more time to historical research.

Since 1891 he has been the organizer of the historical concerts , in which mainly works by Johann Sebastian Bach were performed. But he also revived compositions from the pre-Bach period. Among them were several previously unpublished works by Georg Böhm and Franz Tunder , which he found during his research in the Lübeck City Library .
