Richard Edmund Flatters (* 1822 in Uerdingen ; † October 23, 1876 in Bremerhaven ) was a German portrait and genre painter .

Life

Flatters studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1837 to 1840 . There he was a student of Karl Ferdinand's son . He then took up a job as a genre and portrait painter. In the early 1840s, as a court painter, he made paintings for the grand ducal court in Oldenburg . From 1843 to 1848 he was a student in Paul Delaroche's studio in Paris. From 1845 to 1848 he took part in the Paris Salon . In the 1850s Flatters worked as a genre and portrait painter in Oldenburg. He moved to Brussels in the early 1860s , then lived in Bremerhaven from 1864, where in 1866 he founded a drawing school for journeymen and apprentices.
