Richard Fullbright

Richard W. "Dick" Fullbright (* 1901 in Paris , Texas , † November 17, 1962 in New York ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass , bass saxophone , tuba ).

Life

Fullbright began his tuba career in minstrel shows such as the Virginia Minstrels . From 1926 to 1928 he played with Alonzo Ross and His DeLuxe Syncopaters, then in Florida with Luckey Roberts . After moving to New York City, he worked with Lou Henry, Charlie Skeete and Bingie Madison , in 1930/31 with Elmer Snowden and then until 1937 with Teddy Hill , with whom he also went on a European tour.

In the late 1930s, Fullbright worked both as a bassist and tuba player; he played u. a. with Billy Hicks and Dave Martin in New York hotels. From 1939 to 1941 he played with Zutty Singleton ; from 1943 to 1947 he was part of Alberto Soccaras' band. He then performed as a freelance musician with Noble Sissle at the New York Club Diamond Horseshoe and played with Buck Washington and Cootie Williams . In the course of his career he participated in 27 recording sessions between 1927 and 1950, except for the named ones with Frankie Newton , King Oliver , Mamie Smith , Trixie Smith , Clarence Williams , Cow Cow Davenport , Dickie Wells , Django Reinhardt and Sidney Bechet . In 1958, Fullbright retired from the music business.
