Richard Grützmacher

Richard Heinrich Grützmacher (born December 3, 1876 in Berlin ; † June 11, 1959 there ) was a Protestant theologian and university professor.

Life

Grützmacher was born the son of a Berlin businessman. After graduating from high school in 1895, he studied theology in Heidelberg and Berlin . He performed his vicariate in Friedersdorf . In 1901 he received his doctorate in Berlin as a licentiate in theology. After his 2nd theological exam, which he passed in 1901 at the University of Greifswald , he became inspector of the local theological study house . After his habilitation in 1902, he was a private lecturer at the university for a year. In 1903 he became associate professor for systematic theology at the University of Rostock and from 1907 was a full professor. His teaching and research focus were Old and New Protestantism. In 1912 he moved to Erlangen , where he retired early in 1924. During his time in Erlangen, he was rector of the university from 1914 to 1916. From 1930 to 1945 he conducted research as the scientific director of the Lessing University in Berlin and in 1945 became a lecturer at the Berlin Adult Education Center .
