Richard Groß (District Administrator)

Richard Groß (born December 30, 1940 in Gau-Bickelheim , Rheinhessen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1983 to 2005 he was district administrator of the Trier-Saarburg district .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1960 at Alzey , Groß studied in Mainz and Berlin, and graduated in 1964 with a degree in economics . He then worked as a research assistant at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz until March 1970 . A scholarship from the Fazit Foundation enabled him to study in Brussels, London and Paris in 1966/67 in preparation for his dissertation , and in 1969 he did his doctorate in Mainz on the subject of freedom and intervention in capital movements between industrialized countries .

In April 1970 he began his professional career as a consultant in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Social Affairs. Until his appointment as district administrator, he was most recently Ministerialrat (since 1979), deputy head of the health department (hospital financing) and also chairman of the staff council at the ministry.

Groß is married and has two grown children.

Richard Groß joined the CDU in 1973. Until November 1983 he was CDU parliamentary group chairman in the council of the Nieder-Olm community .

In November 1983, Groß received from Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel the appointment of District Administrator of the Trier-Saarburg district, the official introduction as the successor to Dieter Braun-Friderici took place in 1984. First re-elected by the district council in November 1991, the second confirmation took place on March 25, 2001 of the changed local electoral law for the first time through a direct election of the voters, Groß achieved a share of the vote of 62.45%. Actually elected until November 2009, he decided to retire with effect from December 31, 2005 - one day after his 65th birthday. His successor was Günther Schartz (CDU) , who was elected on June 5, 2005 .

The focus of his tenure as district administrator was the improvement of the infrastructure through the construction of kindergartens, town houses, streets, cycle paths and the launch of a new school building and renovation program, as well as the development of new industrial and commercial areas such as the industrial park region Trier. In addition, he worked on the various political levels from federal to district on the boards of economic, social and cultural associations, as well as institutions with tasks in the areas of health, spatial planning and the environment.

Volunteering

Groß is involved with the Trier Cultural Foundation as a "Culture Angel" . These people interested in culture support cultural workers on a voluntary basis with their specialist knowledge.
