Richard John Haas (born August 29, 1936 in Spring Green , Wisconsin ) is an American mural painter. He is particularly known for his architecturally influenced wall paintings and his perfect trompe l'œil technique.

Works

Richard Haas murals can be found in and on numerous public buildings throughout the United States. Some of these are Chase Field , the Robert C. Byrd Federal Building & Courthouse in Beckley , West Virginia , the main building of the New York Public Library , the Lakewood Public Library (Ohio), the Judicial Center in Sarasota County , Florida, and the former Board of Education building in Brooklyn, New York. One of his best-known works, the “Brooklyn Bridge”, shows the connection between painterly genius and architectural empathy. In 1984 Richard Haas created a three-facade mural on the former Edison Brothers Stores building and today's Sheraton Hotel in St. Louis , Missouri , using silicate paints. The total area of ​​the picture is 1100 square meters.

The only work of art by Richard Haas in Europe can be seen in Munich between Rumfordstrasse and Frauenstrasse on the so-called Zwingereck. It is one of his early works and was created in 1978 when an exhibition by Richard Haas was held in Munich. Since 2009 the plant has not been visible from the outside due to a new building.

Richard Haas was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in 1994.
