Richard Hoffmann (medical doctor)

Hermann Wilhelm Richard Hoffmann (born October 21, 1863 in Cottbus , † June 21, 1939 in Dresden ) was a German physician with a focus on middle ear suppuration, sinus dilatations and their complications. From 1912 he was a royal Saxon professor.

Life

Hoffmann was born in Cottbus in 1863 and studied medicine in Jena , Erlangen and Berlin . During his studies in 1885 he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity . After completing his doctorate in Jena, he completed his advanced training at the municipal hospitals on Arenberg zu Elberfeld , at the eye and ear clinic at the Jena University Hospital and at the Berlin Polyclinic for Neck and Nose Diseases .

On April 1, 1895, Hoffmann moved to Dresden as a general practitioner and specialist in ear, nose and larynx problems (later: throat diseases ). His private clinic was located at Zinzendorfstraße 39, in 1896 he moved it to Mathildenstraße 2 and in 1910 to Friedrichstraße 50.

In 1901 Hoffmann became an ear doctor at the Dresden infant home, in 1904 he founded the ear outpatient department at the Dresden-Johannstadt City Hospital , which he expanded in 1911 to become the department for ear, nose and throat diseases . In 1912 he was awarded the title of Royal Saxon Professor. From this year onwards, Hoffmann is also listed as the "conducting doctor" of the department he founded in 1911. In 1923 Hoffmann was awarded the title of City Medical Council. Since then he has also appeared in the Dresden address book as director of the department for ear and throat patients at the Johannstadt City Hospital.

Richard Hoffmann retired at the end of 1930 and died on June 21, 1939 in his last place of work in Dresden.
