Richard Kingson (* 13. June 1978 in Accra as Richard Paul Franck Kingston ) is a Ghanaian football goalkeeper . Career
In the club
Kingson began his career in Ghana at Great Olympics , for which he played from 1996 to 1998. The rest of his career, however, he denied in Turkey, first in the 1998/99 season at Sakaryaspor , then for two years at Göztepe Izmir . At Antalyaspor , for whom he played from 2001 to 2002, he only stayed one year, as well as for Elazigspor in the following season. From 2003 to 2005 he played for Galatasaray Istanbul before moving to Ankaraspor . In June 2005 he was tested positive for testosterone in a doping control and banned for six months. From April 2007 he was loaned to Hammarby IF . For the 2007/08 season he moved to Birmingham City for a year . The following year he joined Wigan Athletic , where he acted as a substitute goalkeeper. Kingson signed for Blackpool FC in September 2010 .
In the spring of 2014, Kingson moved to the Turkish second division club Balıkesirspor . At the end of the season he left his club again.
In the national team
Since 1996 Kingson has played a total of 92 internationals for his home country. This makes him the record player for the Ghanaian national team. In 2008 the goalkeeper scored his first goal for the national team.
In 1996 he took part in the Olympic Games for Ghana .
Confusion about his name
During the 2006 World Cup, the player wore the name "Kingson" on his shirt, after he was previously known as "Richard Kingston". The Ghanaian Association then confirmed “Kingston” as the correct spelling. The goalkeeper decided, however, to take over the misspellings of FIFA and henceforth to appear as "Kingson".
Richard's brother Laryea, however, plays as Laryea Kingston .
