Richard Klinkhardt

Richard Klinkhardt (born December 13, 1916 in Wurzen ; † December 28, 2011 there ) was a German engineer and entrepreneur . For his services to the industrial history of the city of Wurzen and the Wurzener Land , he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Wurzen in 2006.

Entrepreneur

In 1872 Richard Klinkhardt's grandfather - the grandson bore his ancestor's name - founded his company in Wurzen. The grandson completed his studies with a degree in engineering and was director of the semi-nationalized family company Pneumatic-Tanks and -Anlagen GmbH in the early years of the GDR . In 1972, on May 1st, it was completely nationalized; Richard Klinkhardt, who was to lose his position on government orders and leave the company, was able to prevent his dismissal at the last moment. He managed the now state- owned company until he retired at the age of 69 in 1985. At the end of 1990 he succeeded in re-privatizing the family business.

Richard Klinkhardt came from a well-known entrepreneurial dynasty in the Leipzig-Wurzen area, headed a family business for decades and had profound knowledge of the company's history and the history of Wurzen (city chronicler).

Honorary citizenship

Richard Klinkhardt's character traits included a down-to-earth attitude, an awareness of tradition and a sense of progress. He was particularly interested in the history of his hometown Wurzen and its region, which he has demonstrated in numerous publications. In his book Die Wurzener Industrie 1797–2002 he described more than 200 years of industrial history in Wurzen and Wurzener Land as well as regional entrepreneurs who worked hard, perseverance, with the courage to take risks, reliability and a sense of duty for the development of the city. For this, Wurzen honored him with honorary citizenship in 2006 in recognition of his lifetime achievement.

As a reminder of the honorary citizen, there is Richard-Klinkhardt-Strasse in Wurzen. Richard Klinkhardt was an honorary member of the Wurzener History and Old Town Association and an honorary member of the Wurzen eV site initiative
