Richard Kostelanetz

Richard Kostelanetz (born May 14, 1940 in New York City ) is an American author and media artist .

life and work

Richard Kostelanetz was born to Boris Kostelanetz (1911-2006) and Ethel Cory (1912-2003). He is the nephew of the conductor Andre Kostelanetz (1901–1980).

Kostelanetz received his bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1960 , his master's degree in intellectual history / cultural history from Columbia University in 1966 and then attended King's College London . Since then he has not only worked as a critic, but also as a media artist , author , editor , publisher , audio book author , composer , filmmaker and as a holographic artist . Richard Kostelanetz was a founding member of Assembling Press (1970), founded Future Press (1970) and Archae Editions (1978), which are geared towards non-commercial publications. He works internationally as a visiting professor.

In 1987 he took part in documenta 8 in Kassel. The video Metropolis New York City (60 min.) Was shown in the World made of Sounds and Noises section.

In the video John Cage : Man and Myth (documentary 60 min, 1990) Richard Kostelanetz plays himself.
