Richard Krüger (born July 4, 1880 in Leipzig , † January 30, 1965 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German politician of the Weimar Republic and a member of the Reichstag ( SPD ).

Life

Krüger learned the mechanical engineering trade after attending secondary school in Leipzig. He also worked abroad as a fitter for several years. He attended evening school courses on economics and political science at the University of Leipzig and also did advanced training at the party education school. He became secretary of the local health insurance fund in Leipzig, then he worked as a workers secretary and managing director of the German Metalworkers' Association in Merseburg . Krüger also worked as a representative for a large valve factory.

From 1913 he was a city councilor in Merseburg, where he was already active as a city councilor. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Prussian state assembly and was elected to the Reichstag in 1920, to which he belonged until 1928. Krüger resigned his mandate because of the assumption of the office of the police chief in Weißenfels. From 1928 to 1933 he served as police chief in Weißenfels. After the seizure of power he was released and imprisoned several times, most recently in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp .

After the end of the war, Krüger and Georg König from the KPD played a leading role in establishing the provincial police in Saxony-Anhalt and was police chief in Halle from July 1, 1945 to 1950. At the same time he was an honorary city councilor in Halle (Saale). From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the provincial leadership of the compulsory SED .
