Richard L. Gardner
Richard Lavenham Gardner (born June 10, 1943 in Dorking , Surrey ) is a British biologist .
Life
Gardner earned a bachelor's degree from Cambridge University in 1966, a master's degree in 1970 , and a Ph.D. in 1971. in physiology . From 1969 to 1973 Gardner was a research assistant at Cambridge University. In 1973 he became a lecturer in developmental and reproductive biology at Oxford University while enrolled as a student at Christ Church College . 1978 Gardner received a full professorship, which was sponsored by the Royal Society (Royal Society Professor) . Since 1985, Gardner has been Honorary Director of the Developmental Biology Division of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund . In 2008 he retired from Oxford and has been a professor at the University of York since 2007 .
Gardner is married and has one son.
Act
Gardner is considered to be the pioneer of microscopic manipulation of the mouse blastocyst , with which he created a basis for significant scientific advances in the fields of developmental biology and genetics . As a result, other techniques of gene transfer and micromanipulation were developed that ultimately led to the cloning of mammals . Gardner succeeded in identifying mouse embryonic stem cells , bringing them into culture and introducing specific mutations in these cells.
