Giovanni Giacomo Panciroli

Giovanni Giacomo Panciroli (* 1587 in Rome ; † September 3, 1651 ibid) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church and cardinal state secretary .

Career

Panciroli was born in 1587 as the son of a tailor in Rome and taught there. In 1605 he obtained the academic degree of Doctor iuris utriusque .

He became an advocate for the Curia and accompanied Giovanni Battista Pamphili during his service in Naples and Spain .

In 1641 he was appointed titular Latin Patriarch of Constantinople . On January 12, 1642 Cardinal he donated Giulio Cesare Sacchetti in the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Lelio Falconieri and Alessandro Castracani , former bishop of Nicastre . In 1643 Pope Urban VIII raised him to cardinal priest with the titular church of Santo Stefano Rotondo . After the death of Urban VIII, Panciroli took part in the conclave of 1644 .

Pope Innocent X appointed him Cardinal Secretary of State together with Cardinal Nepot Camillo Francesco Maria Pamphilij until he resigned from the office to marry Olimpia Aldobrandini .

Panciroli died on September 3, 1651 in the Quirinal Palace in Rome.
