Lelio Falconieri
Lelio Falconieri (* 1585 in Florence , † December 14, 1648 in Viterbo ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
He was the tenth of thirteen children of Paolo Falconieri and his second wife Maddalena degli Albizzi. He studied law at the University of Perugia , he concluded with the promotion of Dr. iur. from. He then went to Rome and began his career as a lawyer at the Curia . Under Pope Paul V he became the papal house prelate . Under Pope Urban VIII he continued his career at the Curia.
On December 4, 1634 he was appointed titular archbishop of Thebae . He was ordained bishop on December 10, 1634 by Cardinal Giulio Cesare Sacchetti ; Co- consecrators were Nicola Sacchetti , Bishop of Volterra , and Ludovico Serristori , Bishop of Cortona . From 1635 to 1637 Lelio Falconieri was nuncio in Flanders . Due to a serious illness he had to return to Rome, where he became secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regular Clerics in 1642 .
Pope Urban VIII elevated him to cardinal priest in the consistory of July 13, 1643 and awarded him the titular church of Santa Maria del Popolo on August 31, 1643 . Lelio Falconieri took part in the conclave of 1644, at which Innocent X was elected Pope. As a legate in Bologna, he fell seriously ill in Florence and wanted to return to Rome.
On the way there he died on December 14, 1648 in Viterbo. His body was transferred to Rome and buried in the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini .
