Friedrich Otto Richard Meyer (born May 27, 1893 in Bismark ; † September 13, 1974 in Coppenbrügge ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ). Of 12 April 1933 to 30 June 1944 he was mayor in Stendal .

Live and act

Meyer was born as the son of the worker Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer and his wife Louise Wilhelmine Caroline, née Schulz, in Bismark near Stendal. Up to the age of 14 he attended the local elementary school, then the preparatory institute , then the teachers' seminar in Osterburg, and in 1914 passed the first teacher examination in Osterburg.

On August 8, 1914, he joined the 10th Hussar Regiment as a war volunteer , joined the 6th Cavalry Division and took to the field with the 21st Dragoon Regiment. In July 1915 he was badly wounded and on January 11, 1919 he was released home as a medical sergeant.

On March 1, 1919, he started teaching at the school in Bismark and in 1920 passed the second teacher examination. On October 1, 1924, he was transferred to Klietz . With the disciplinary judgment of February 4, 1926, he was dismissed from school for "unauthorized removal from office". He then took over the forwarding business of his in-laws in Bismark as managing director, which he is said to have sold later. Meyer was a member of the Stahlhelm until 1930 . On December 1, 1930, he joined the NSDAP (membership number 371.392) and became a local group leader and city councilor in Bismark. On December 1, 1931, he was appointed NSDAP district leader of the city and district of Stendal. He held this office until December 17, 1935.

After the local elections in March 1933, on April 7 of the same year he was commissioned by the district president in Magdeburg with the provisional administration of the second mayor's post. On May 19, 1933, he became resident in Stendal. On April 1, 1934, Meyer became a member of the SS (membership number 253.356). From November 9, 1934 he was SS-Obersturmführer.

Due to private circumstances, Meyer asked on March 21, 1944 to be transferred to another position of equal value as mayor. As a justification, he gave the intention to marry again with the divorced Mrs. Seehaus from Stendal. On July 1, 1944, he was transferred to Aschersleben .

On May 8, 1945 (other sources cite May 7), Meyer was arrested and brought before the CIC . He was interned in the Staumühle Hiddensen / Detmold camp. In connection with the Nuremberg verdict , Meyer was classified as an activist and sentenced to one year in prison. On February 9, 1948, the judgment became final. The sentence was declared served due to internment.

Meyer was married twice. First since March 19, 1920 with Else Ida Frieda, née Estedt. He had two children with her: Gisela Meyer (born June 6, 1920) and Christa Elisabeth Meyer (born December 24, 1922). His wife died on November 15, 1940 after a long and serious illness. On November 18, 1944, he married Frieda, née Duhm, divorced Seehaus. Meyer lived in Schadewachten in 1933, in 1935 in Markt 7 (in the house of the NSDAP district leadership) and since April 15, 1937 Westwall 29 (official apartment). Meyer ran on the nomination for the NSDAP at number 655 in the election to the German Reichstag on November 12, 1933, but did not enter the National Socialist Reichstag .
