Richard Roblee

Richard Roblee (* 1943 in Seattle ) is an American trombonist .

Life

At the beginning of his musical career, Roblee played the trombone in the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra . He switched to the Del Courtney Big Band from Honolulu as a trombonist and singer and accompanied with this Sammy Davis Jr. , Tony Bennett and Henry Mancini . In 1988 Roblee came to Germany after marrying his wife Judyann (concert pianist), who came from England and with whom he played in an orchestra in Hawaii, and since then has preferred to devote himself to church music . From 2003 to February 2009 he was professor for jazz and big band at the University of Music in Würzburg . Roblee composes arrangements for chorales from the Protestant hymnbook and older folk songs . He usually provides arrangements that often contain a prelude, an accompaniment and an aftermath. Roblee's favorite style of music is swing , to which most arrangements belong; however, he also composes with South American rhythms and funk . In his work as a church music director, he also organizes workshops on behalf of the YMCA .

Under the name Richard Roblee's Verylittlebigband , founded in May 1994, Roblee plays Roblee's music in a small line-up with Jürgen Hahn ( trumpet ) and Mathias Grabisch ( bass trombone ). The musical spectrum ranges from Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Cooljazz to classical music. Roblee lives in Iphofen ( Kitzingen district ) and is married.
