Richard Sjöberg (actually Gustaf Richard Georgsson Sjöberg ; born September 20, 1890 in Karlskrona , Sweden , † September 14, 1960 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish athlete who specialized in the high jump and the pole vault .

Richard Sjöberg had his first international assignment at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , where he competed in his two specialist disciplines. In the high jump he could not qualify for the final with a skipped 1.75 m and took 13th place shared with nine other athletes. He also missed qualifying for the final in the pole vault . Although he jumped his personal best with 3.60 m, he only finished 12th.

In 1913 Sjöberg became the Swedish national champion in high jump. The following year he entered the open English amateur championships and was fourth in the high jump. However, he celebrated his greatest success in the pole vault, he was able to defeat the Irish Timothy Leahy in this competition. In 1915 Sjöberg set a new Scandinavian record with a high jump of 1.92 m.

In later years Richard Sjöberg was involved in the further development of orienteering . Even after his active career, he worked in various sports organizations. In 1925 he was treasurer of the Swedish Bandy Association .
