The Svenska Bandyförbundet (SBF) is the national bandy association in Sweden . It was founded on April 5, 1925 in Stockholm and in 1955 was a founding member of the Federation of International Bandy (FIB).

history

Before the association was founded, the organization of the bandy in Sweden was the responsibility of the national football association Svenska Fotbollförbundet .

The Svenska Bandyförbundet was founded on April 5, 1925 in Stockholm and initially had 49 clubs as members. The 39-year-old doctor Sune Almkvist , who headed the association until 1950, became the first chairman . On August 26, 1925, he was accepted into the Riksidrottsförbundet. A year later, 198 clubs belonged to the association. This number continued to grow and peaked in the early 1950s with 863 clubs. Thereafter the number sank to 670 in 1975 and 334 in 2004. In 1955 the association was a founding member of the world association FIB. The association had its headquarters in Katrineholm until July 2008 , but then moved to the capital.

The Bandy World Championship was hosted by Sweden in 1963 , 1969 , 1971 , 1979 , 1987 , 1997 , 2001 (together with Finland), 2004 , 2006 , 2009 and 2013 . The 2008 Women's Bandy World Championship also took place in Sweden.

National teams

The Swedish men's bandynational team is considered the best in the world after the Russian selection. By 2014, the selection won the world championship eleven times as well as 16 silver and seven bronze medals.

The Swedish women's bandynational team won all six world championships up to 2012 ahead of the Russian selection.
