Richard Waddington

Richard Pendrell Waddington (born May 22, 1838 in Rouen , † June 26, 1913 in Saint-Léger-du-Bourg-Denis ) was a French politician and historian.

Waddington, offspring of an industrial family of English descent and brother of William Henry Waddington , represented the Seine-Maritime department in the National Assembly during the Third Republic for many years , first in the House of Commons from 1876 to 1891, then in the Senate from 1891 to 1913 ; As a member of the Union démocratique , later the Union républicaine, he represented moderate left positions.

Waddington's work on the history of military and diplomacy on the Seven Years' War is still considered standard work today. Waddington Bay in Antarctica is named in his honor .

Richard Waddington was the father of the Benedictine nun and founder of the order Marguerite Waddington-Delmas (1870-1952).
