Richard Yator Kimunyan (born April 6, 1998 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Richard Yator gained his first experience at international championships in 2015 at the African Youth Championships in Réduit , where he won the silver medal in the 3000 meter run in 7: 56.33 minutes. He then won the Youth World Championships in Cali in 7: 54.45 minutes and won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia in 7: 59.78 minutes. At the 2017 World Cross Country Championships in Kampala , he won the bronze medal in the U20 classification after 22:52 minutes and secured the silver medal behind Ethiopia in the team classification. Two years later he finished 13th at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus in 32:51 minutes and secured the silver medal behind Uganda in the team standings. He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and won the bronze medal there in 13: 31.41 minutes behind his two compatriots Robert Kiprop and Edward Pingua Zakayo .
