Edward Pingua Zakayo (born November 25, 2001 in Narok ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Edward Pingua Zakayo gained his first experience in international championships at the Youth World Championships 2017 in Nairobi , where he won the silver medal over 3000 meters behind the Ethiopian Selemon Barega in 7: 49.17 minutes . In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he surprisingly won the bronze medal in 13: 54.06 min. At the U20 World Championships in Tampere , Finland , he won the gold medal in the 5000 meter run in 13: 20.16 minutes in front of his compatriot Stanley Waithaka Mburu . The following year he won the Junior African Championships in Abidjan with a new championship record and a world best for the year of 13: 13.06 min. He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time , where he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Robert Kiprop in 13: 31.40 minutes .
