Richard von Rosen

Richard Wilfred Harry Erich Freiherr von Rosen (born June 28, 1922 in Hirschsprung , Amtshauptmannschaft Dippoldiswalde ; † October 26, 2015 in Kreuth , Upper Bavaria ) was a German officer, most recently in the rank of major general .

family

Richard von Rosen came from the German-Baltic , Protestant noble family of Rosen . His parents were Erich Woldemar von Rosen (1880–1949) and Sophie von Rosen, b. from Seidlitz. He had two sisters and a brother.

Richard von Rosen was with Anna-Luise, geb. von Hofacker married. She is the daughter of Caesar von Hofacker , a resistance fighter in the attack on July 20, 1944 . The marriage resulted in a son and three daughters.

Life

As a member of the Wehrmacht, Rosen took part in the Second World War from 1940 to 1945 , including the last few years as an officer in a heavy tank division . He had commands in Russia, France and Hungary and was a participant in Operation Barbarossa and in Operation Citadel . He was seriously wounded several times.

Ten years after the end of the war, he joined the newly founded Bundeswehr in 1955 . From 1964 to 1966 he was a general staff officer at the Commander- in -Chief of the Allied Land Forces in Fontainebleau . He was the commander of the 294 tank battalion (1966-1970) and a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Defense (1970-1972) and the commander of the 21 tank brigade (Augustdorf) (1972-1976).

In 1976 Richard Freiherr von Rosen became defense attaché at the German Embassy in Paris and in 1980 German representative to the Commander- in -Chief of the French Armed Forces in Germany . In 1982 he was retired with the rank of major general.

Von Rosen documented the tank war on the eastern and western fronts of the Second World War in an extensive book with 445 partly unpublished image documents, the second edition of which was published in 2004.
