The Rickmer Bock is a former motor rescue boat (MRB) of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). It was built at the August Pahl shipyard in Hamburg-Finkenwerder with construction number 253.

The boat with the DGzRS internal designation KRB (coastal lifeboat) 208 was put into service in October 1944 as Hindenburg , but was renamed Privy Councilor Heinrich Gerlach III in December 1944 ; Gerlach was the chairman of the DGzRS district association Memel, who died in 1912 . In October 1950 the boat was renamed again and given the name Rickmer Bock . Rickmer Bock was a long-time foreman of the DGzRS on the island of Helgoland, died in 1950.

Overall, the crews of this boat were able to save 1,223 people from distress during its active time.

Stationings

The boat was stationed from October 1944 to April 1945 in the Dorumer Tief , then until August 1945 on the island of Borkum . This was followed by a brief stationing on the island of Norderney until September 1945 . The next stop was Cuxhaven , where the boat remained until January 4, 1951. From there it went to the island of Amrum until March 1952 . On March 20, 1952 the change to the island of Helgoland took place , where the stationing ended on August 28, 1958. After a brief stop in List on the island of Sylt in September 1955 , the Rickmer Bock was alternately used in Hörnum on Sylt and Amrum from October 26, 1955 to 1959 . The last place where the boat was used was the DGzRS station in Büsum, where the Rickmer Bock lay from 1960 to February 3, 1981.

The decommissioning did not mean the final end of the Rickmer Bock . From 1981 to 2003 the boat was on the grounds of the DGzRS in Bremen, right next to the DGzRS-owned shipyard. In June 2003 it was given to the Büsum Museum Harbor Association and has been in the Büsum Museum Harbor ever since . The association uses it once a year for a trip to Heligoland.
