ricoloop (born on September 21, 1968 in Dresden as Rico Dießner ) is a German songwriter , songwriter and singer .

Life

Rico Dießner was born on September 21, 1968 in Dresden. He spent his childhood and youth in East and West Berlin. At the age of ten he got his first instrument from his father, a piano , at fifteen his first synthesizer and later a 4-track Multitracker from Fostex. As a child he wanted to be a sound engineer , but since he suffers from red-green poor eyesight , he never took up this job and instead began to play instruments. In his youth he worked as a keyboard player in several bands , but also learned other instruments.

At the age of 21 he left Germany to travel the world as a backpacker . He also visited India , where he bought his first guitar . With the help of this he wrote his first songs, which he later performed as a street musician. He lived about three years in Canada , earned in Japan with street juggling his money and tried in Thailand as Reef Diver and in the Himalaya region as a mountaineer.

At the age of 30 he moved back to Berlin, where he needed some time to reintegrate. Soon afterwards he was hired by the Hexenkessel Hoftheater to write the music for A Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare . Then in 2003 he played the music there every evening for the entrance and the piece. Since then it has been called ricoloop . Shortly afterwards he was invited to a foreign music event for the first time, the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway . From then on he began to travel the world as a musician. He played at festivals, in clubs, at music fairs for the Roland company and its BOSS brand , at fashion fairs for the Timezone company and for the Goethe Institute in Siberia . In 2008/09 Ricoloop lived briefly in Ibiza, but now back in Berlin and continues to perform as a street musician - according to his own statements, his preferred activity.

music

ricoloop uses a loop station in his music , with which he records repeating samples , so-called loops . During his live performances, he usually produces these samples in freestyle with a range of instruments , such as electric or acoustic guitar, harmonica , drums or self-made instruments. He also loops his singing , generating noises by means of beatboxing and improvising with sounds, calls and singing from the audience or sounds that he picks up with his microphones from the environment, for example blast sounds from bottles filled with water. He puts all of this together, almost always spontaneously, into complex beats and melodies and slowly builds up entire songs that can differ completely from appearance to appearance. Between his looped tracks, he also sings songs he has written himself, which he accompanies with his guitar.

Awards

In September 2007 he was voted musician of the month by BIB magazine - music magazine for Berlin and Brandenburg .
