The giant autumn timeless ( Colchicum bornmuelleri ) is a plant species from the genus of the timeless ( Colchicum ) in the family of the timeless plants (Colchicaceae).

The giant autumn crocus is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches heights of 12 to 25 centimeters. The 3 to 4 leaves are narrowly elliptical and measure 17 to 25 × 2.6 to 4.5 centimeters. The 1 to 3 (6) flowers are bell-shaped. The perigone lobes are obsolete, purple-pink, often white in the throat and measure 45 to 70 × 11 to 25 millimeters. The scar runs down 0.5 to 1.5 millimeters. The tip of the stylus is clearly swollen. The anthers are purple or purple-brown before opening.

The flowering period extends from August to September.

Occurrence

The giant autumn crocus occurs in northern central Turkey in beech and fir forest edges and on meadows at altitudes of 1000 to 1900 meters.

The giant autumn crocus is widely used as an ornamental plant for lawns, wood edges and perennial beds and as a cut flower. The species has been in culture since 1892 at the latest.
