Riley Paul Woodcock (born May 23, 1995 in Perth ) is an Australian football player .

Career

Woodcock first played in the youth field for four years at Gosnells City , where, among other things, Scott Galloway was his teammate, then at Forrestfield United and Cockburn City . Already in 2008 (U-14) and 2009 (U-15) he was a member of Western Australian national teams that took part in the national youth championships. In 2010 he was awarded a scholarship to the National Training Center of Western Australia and was elected to the All-Star Team in a tournament between Australian sports institutes in January 2010. In October 2010 he won the title at the national youth championships with the Western Australian U-15 selection, this was the first success for a Western Australian selection in over 30 years of tournament history.

As a result, he was nominated for the U-16 Asian Cup held in October and November 2010 , in which he scored a goal in four games and only failed with the Australian team in the semi-finals against the host Uzbekistan's team. By reaching the semi-finals, they also qualified for the U-17 World Cup in 2011 . Immediately afterwards he was elected player of the tournament at another tournament of the sports institutes for his achievements as a left full-back. In 2011 he moved to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and, as expected, was nominated for the U-17 World Cup in Mexico. There he was used in all four games for the Australian U-17s , when Uzbekistan again took care of the tournament in the round of 16 (final score 0: 4).

In 2012 he returned to Western Australia and played for the youth team of the only Western Australian professional club Perth Glory in the National Youth League . In June 2012 he took part with an Australian U-20 selection in the successful qualification for the 2013 U-22 Asian Cup. After training with the professional team for the first time in February 2013, Woodcock signed his first professional contract a month later and was named youth player of the year in April 2013.

Woodcock finally made his debut in the A-League under coach Alistair Edwards on November 30, 2013 as a substitute against Brisbane Roar and subsequently established himself as a left defender in the team under Edward's successor Kenny Lowe . Woodcock benefited from a prolonged injury to Scott Jamieson . In October 2014, Woodcock took part with the Australian U-20 selection at the U-19 Asian Cup in Myanmar. He played two games when the team was eliminated in the preliminary round after one win and two draws due to the worse goal difference.

Also due to the regular nominations in Australian national teams - Woodcock was also regularly used in the Australian U-23 team from 2014 onwards - and the associated absences, Woodcock only made a short appearance in the 2013/14 season , in the left-back position Jamieson was set for the entire season at Perth. In June 2015, Woodcock signed a one-year deal with league rivals Sydney FC .
