Rina Ketty (Amsterdam, 1946)

Rina Ketty (born March 1, 1911 in Turin , † December 16, 1996 in Cannes ; actually Cesarina Picchetto ) was a French chanson singer of Italian origin.

Rina Ketty came to Paris in the 1930s . In 1938 and 1939 she achieved two great successes with the titles Sombreros et Mantilles and J'attendrai (English: " I will wait ") by the Italian composer Dino Olivieri . While these chansons were very popular during World War II , she did not manage to build on these successes after 1945.

In 1954 she moved to Canada , but returned to France in 1965. But this time, too, she was denied a comeback . In 1991 she received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from Minister of Culture Jack Lang . Her husband Jo Harman died in 1994.

Mari Trini and Dalida were among the new interpreters of their songs . The title J'attendrai was used in the German anti-war film Das Boot (1981), in the radio play Arc de Triomphe based on the book of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque and in its 1985 film adaptation . Here Lesley-Anne Down sings the song. J'attendrai is also used in the films A Beautiful Girl Like Me (1972) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). The title became known again in 2005 through its use in the crash test commercial of the French car manufacturer Renault .
